Reuel is an actor and storyteller born and raised in Baltimore City. His mother enrolled him in arts (piano, choir, theatre) at the age of 5 to help Reuel overcome his diagnosed speech-impediment, and learn diaphragm breathing techniques to fight his chronic asthma attacks. Throughout his school years Reuel explored photography, sculpture, guitar and dance before focusing his talents on acting. After a few years running educational and sports non-profits and a brief stint working for the Maryland Attorney General, Reuel returned to his passion of performing and entertaining. He was quickly cast in the first ever lacrosse feature film 'Crooked Arrows' by veteran producer J. Todd Harris. Soon after he was a part of the Cannes Short Film selection 'Roses' from Chantal Costen, and then handpicked by Kevin Spacey for screen time in the award-winning 'House of Cards' series from Netflix. Now residing in Los Angeles, Reuel has been producing and developing several projects where he can lend his talents both in front of and behind the lens. Reuel completed his bachelors outside of Baltimore at Stevenson University and is currently a Masters student at MICA,. He recently auditioned and was accepted into the Groundlings Core Track program. Reuel is excitedly engaged to fellow actor Christina Forbes :-)
What Does Black History Month Mean To You This Year?
Self Love. Legacy. Empowerment. Every year when February comes along it gives me pause to reflect and discuss my place. What I can contribute. How I may build others. How I may grow and strengthen myself. This year as we face a presidential election, I think everyone from every minority group, blacks especially, are anxious. For the last 8 years we have had someone that reflects our community. For me, I have spent the month identifying what I have done, and how I have grown -- who have I helped. This year, I am reminded of the adversity I have faced, the adversity my family and friends have faced to support me and support equality and who has been there as a partner so that we may all live life to the fullest. This reflection encourages and invigorates me to continue to work hard as an actor so that I may continue to share another perspective, to be a voice for the communities I was raised in, to soar.
What Is On Trend For You?
Intent. Telling your own story unabashedly and unforgivably. Dispelling urban myths and being your full self. The world is flat and every day becomes more and more blended. On 'fleek' (as the kids say) are stories that are bringing people together. Stories where the unlikely hero wins. Stories that identify strength under incredible circumstances.
Right now technology is allowing for an awesome platform -- from VR to online streaming services to social media all are changing our viewing habits and abilities to share these new stories. We are able to discover and share them in an instant. The ability to connect with other artists and creatives through instagram, periscope, and snapchat are major keys (shoutout DJ Khaled). The knowledge and education being passed down from fellow creatives 50 and under is amazing. So in short -- our ability to learn so many new things so quickly is altering and improving our world each day -- the global and virtual creative artist is on the rise.
