My name is Medina King-Sam. I'm an interior designer and founder of MK Kids Interiors, a British Interior Design firm specializing in childrens' bedrooms, playrooms, day-care centres and children's clinics. I also own another company called Nesting Properties an interior design build and property maintenance services for homes and small businesses. I love creating, and I make felt ball garlands for my Etsy store. I also paint abstract wall art in my spare time. I love food and I enjoy exploring various Mediterranean and middle eastern cuisines; they have a wide variety of tasty vegetarian dishes.
What Does Black History Month Mean To You This Year?
Black history means more to me than the month. However, this month I am celebrating my achievement as a black female interior designer in Britain. I started from nothing. No loans, no referrals, no solid industry experience, and today I own two interior design companies. I am proud of me!
I was raised to appreciate black history. I am a supporter of black business and entrepreneurs and I try my best to support my people in every way possible. So for me it’s a daily celebration, it is not defined to a month. I am a lover of healthy and positive black love and black families! When I see black families it warms my heart, and I pray that we can have more role models.
Where Are You Finding Inspiration To Design This Year?
I'm usually inspired by natural forms and the colours in nature. My current inspiration is my felt ball garlands and their colour palette. They have inspired the colour scheme of one of our current playroom projects that our client absolutely loves! I love browsing Instagram and discovering new artisans.
