Charles Elliott Harbison is the founder and Creative Director of HARBISON founded in 2013. Born in Lincolnton, NC, Charles developed an early interest in fashion while observing the transformative impact that clothing had on his mother’s persona.
Charles studied fine arts, painting, and textiles at North Carolina State University. Following graduation, Charles spent a year abroad studying Central Asian textiles. His next move brought him to New York, where he enrolled in the fashion program at Parsons School Of Design.
Charles began his professional career as a textile designer before moving on to womenswear at Micheal Kors. He continued with stints at Luca Luca and Billy Reid, producing both womenswear and accessories.
What Does Black History Month Mean To You This Year?
Black History Month is an opportunity to highlight the Black individuals who are continuing to move the arc of our society forward by way of their accomplishments in various fields. For me, it's less about looking back and more about looking forward through the lens of our Black ancestors' dreams for us.
What Is On Trend Right Now?
"Gender" is on trend, in my opinion. From women's equality to queer liberation, most people have the idea of gender equity and gender norms top of mind in fashion, art, business, and politics.
